These terms and conditions outline the rules and regulations for the use of CaptionX's Website, located at https://caption-x.com and operated by Tether Technologies Pty Ltd, an Australian company. You can contact us at support@caption-x.com.

By accessing this website, we assume you accept these terms and conditions. Do not continue to use CaptionX if you do not agree to take all of the terms and conditions stated on this page.

Subscriptions, Billing and Refunds

Caption X offers a free tier, paid subscription plans and one-off packs. Paid plans renew automatically for the same period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account; cancelling stops all future payments, and your paid features stay active until the end of the period you have already paid for. If we change the price of your plan, what it includes or these terms in a way that affects you, we'll email you before the change applies, and you can cancel before then.

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: we ask you to report a problem within 14 days of your payment so that we have the chance to fix it, and if we cannot resolve it, we will refund it. For Pro plans with a monthly number of hours, hour packs and Eye Correction, we refund the part of that payment you haven't used. For other plans, we refund that payment in full.

Pro plans with a monthly number of hours, hour packs and Eye Correction, and their renewals, are sold through Link (called Onelink in the UK), Stripe's checkout service. Stripe's affiliate Sold through Link, LLC acts as the merchant of record for these payments. Link takes the payment and sends your receipts and invoices, and our prices include any sales tax, VAT or GST that applies. These payments show on your bank statement under LINK.COM (ONELINK.COM in the UK), and the Sold Through Link Terms also apply to them. Tether Technologies Pty Ltd still provides Caption X to you under these terms, and you can manage or cancel your plan from your Caption X account or from your Link account. If a renewal payment for one of these plans fails, it's retried for up to two weeks, and if it still hasn't gone through by then, the plan is cancelled.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other consumer law that applies to you.

Hours on Pro plans

This section applies to Pro plans that include a monthly number of hours, which we sold from October 26th, 2026, and to hour packs. Other Pro plans don't include a number of hours, and this section doesn't apply to them.

What's included. Pro includes 15 hours of audio a month. Your hours are shared across the Caption X tools that transcribe audio:

  • captions in our Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve plugins, and the profanity filter;
  • Caption Studio, and the lyric and podcast caption tools;
  • video and audio transcription, audio to SRT and the subtitle generator;
  • translating audio and video files;
  • finding clips with the AI Clip Generator.

The silence remover, exporting, editing, and translating existing captions or .srt files don't use hours. Eye contact correction isn't part of Pro; see AI Eye Contact Correction below.

How hours are used. Hours are counted by the length of the audio we transcribe, so a 42-minute recording uses 42 minutes. You're only charged when a result is delivered: if a job fails, it doesn't use any hours. If a file turns out to have no speech, or the AI Clip Generator finds no clips worth keeping, we give its hours back, as long as the hours given back this way stay within 18 minutes in your monthly period. A file or run longer than what's left of those 18 minutes isn't given back.

Monthly reset. Your hours reset on your billing date each month, and unused hours don't roll over. Yearly plans get 15 hours for each month of the year, starting on your billing date, rather than all at once. When your plan renews, the new month's hours are there once its payment goes through, and some or all of them may be on hold until then.

Going over. If you have at least one minute left, you can start a file that needs up to 30 minutes more than you have, and the extra comes off your next month's hours. Otherwise, a file that needs more hours than you have isn't processed.

Hour packs. Active Pro subscribers can buy 5-hour packs. Pack hours are used after your monthly hours, oldest pack first, and expire 12 months after you buy them.

If your Pro plan ends, you can keep using pack hours until they expire for:

  • video and audio transcription, audio to SRT and the subtitle generator;
  • translating audio and video files;
  • finding clips;
  • captions and the profanity filter in our plugins.

After your plan ends, Caption Studio and the lyric and podcast tools go back to their free versions, animated caption templates need an active plan, and keeping clips follows the free plan's limit.

Plan changes. You can switch from monthly to yearly on caption-x.com. The switch, and the yearly payment, happen at your next billing date; we don't change plans part-way through a billing period.

Refunds. Refunds follow our Refund Policy. If a payment is refunded, the hours the refund covers come off your account, and any of those hours you'd already used come off your future hours.

Acceptable Use

Caption X is for people using our tools themselves, through our website, apps and extensions. You may not use bots, scripts or any other automated means to use Caption X, including sending files to our tools automatically or calling our services directly instead of through our apps, and you may not use automation to get around any limit on your plan.

You may not use Caption X or anything it creates, such as captions, transcripts and subtitle files, to develop, train, fine-tune or improve any AI model, or add it to a dataset used for that purpose.

If we believe an account is being used this way, we may suspend or close it, revoke its access to any part of Caption X, and cancel any subscription on it, immediately and without notice. To the extent the law allows, we do not refund any payment on an account we suspend, close or cancel for this reason.

Fair use. When a plan includes unlimited use, that means normal individual use. Every plan is subject to fair-use limits that keep Caption X fast and available for everyone. These currently include a maximum length per file and a daily limit on the hours of audio an account can process, and we may adjust these limits. Where a custom or team plan agreed with us in writing sets different limits, that agreement applies instead.

AI Eye Contact Correction

How processing works

Eye contact correction is performed in the cloud, not on your device. Your clip is uploaded to us, processed with the assistance of a third-party processing provider, and the corrected version is returned to you.

Data handling

Clips and corrected versions are kept for up to 30 days after processing and then deleted automatically. During that time, we may review any clip and its corrected version to check the result and improve the service. If you'd rather we didn't keep or review your clips, email support@caption-x.com and we'll delete them. Deleted files can remain recoverable for up to 7 days before they are permanently erased. Your clips and their corrected versions are never used to train any AI model.

Eye Correction plans and minute packs

From October 26th, 2026, Eye Correction is sold on its own, separately from Pro, in two ways: as a monthly or yearly plan in 30-minute steps, or as one-off packs of 30 minutes, 1 hour or 5 hours.

Plan minutes reset on your billing date each month, yearly plans included, and don't roll over. When your plan renews, the new month's minutes are there once its payment goes through, and some or all of them may be on hold until then. Pack minutes are used after any monthly minutes, oldest pack first, and expire 12 months after you buy them. If you change how many minutes your plan includes, the new amount starts at your next billing date.

Pro plans with a monthly number of hours don't include eye correction. Other Pro and Pro+ plans include eye correction minutes as before.

If an Eye Correction payment is refunded, the minutes the refund covers come off your account, and any of those minutes you'd already used come off your future minutes.

How allowances are measured

On paid plans, allowances are measured by the length of footage processed, not time spent in the app, so a 3-minute clip uses 3 minutes. Jobs that fail to process are not counted, and a clip is only processed if you have enough minutes for all of it. When a correction changes very little of a clip, we may give its minutes back; this is limited each month. Minutes included with original Pro and Pro+ plans reset at the start of each calendar month and do not roll over.

Clip limits

Clips can be up to 10 minutes long. Higher-resolution footage can have shorter limits, and some resolutions, such as 8K, aren't supported. These limits apply to every plan and pack.

Output

Corrected clips are returned as H.264 video. ProRes and other supported formats are accepted as input, but are not returned in their original codec.

Custom and team plans

Custom and team plans agreed with us in writing may have allowances that differ from our published plans. Where they do, the terms of that agreement apply.

Templates and Plugin Files

Our apps and extensions include caption templates and other files, such as the Motion Graphics Templates in our Premiere Pro extension. They belong to Tether Technologies Pty Ltd and are licensed to you only for use through Caption X. You can edit the captions Caption X places on your timeline and use them in your videos, but you may not extract the template files, use them outside Caption X, or copy, sell, share or redistribute them.

Disclaimer of Any Warranty

Caption X comes with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you also have a legal guarantee that Caption X is as described and fit for normal use, and consumers in the UK have similar legal rights. This section and the next one apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing in them limits those rights.

CAPTIONX AND ALL SERVICES PROVIDED BY TETHER TECHNOLOGIES PTY LTD ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITH NO WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, OF ANY KIND, AND WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AVAILABILITY, SECURITY, TITLE, AND/OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

YOUR USE OF CAPTIONX AND ANY SERVICES PROVIDED BY TETHER TECHNOLOGIES PTY LTD IS AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION AND RISK, AND YOU WILL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT RESULTS FROM THE USE OF OUR WEBSITE OR SERVICES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM OR LOSS OF DATA.

Limitation of Liability

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL TETHER TECHNOLOGIES PTY LTD, ITS AFFILIATES, OR ITS EMPLOYEES BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OUR WEBSITE OR SERVICES, WHETHER BASED ON BREACH OF CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE, PRODUCT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE), OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS.

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. ACCORDINGLY, SOME OF THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO CAPTIONX AND OUR SERVICES, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR OTHERWISE, WILL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID US ANYTHING, INCLUDING WHERE YOU USE OUR FREE TIER, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE.

Cookies

We employ the use of cookies. By accessing CaptionX, you agree to use cookies in agreement with our privacy policy. Cookies are used by our website to enable certain areas of functionality and make the experience easier for visitors.

Content Liability

Tether Technologies Pty Ltd shall not be held responsible for any content that appears on your website, videos, or other media. You agree to indemnify and defend us against all claims arising from or related to your use of CaptionX or any of our services.

Disclaimer

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we exclude all representations, warranties, and conditions relating to our website and the use of this website. Nothing in this disclaimer will:

  • Limit or exclude our liability for death or personal injury.
  • Limit or exclude our liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
  • Limit any of our liabilities in any way that is not permitted under applicable law.
  • Exclude any of our liabilities that may not be excluded under applicable law.

Nothing in this disclaimer or these terms operates to exclude, restrict or modify any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other consumer law that applies to you.
