Get early access to Loudness Normalization
Be the first to normalize audio to platform standards directly inside Premiere Pro.
Getting audio levels right is not optional
YouTube automatically turns down audio that's too loud — and your content sounds different from what you exported. Podcasts delivered too loud clip on some players and sound thin on others. Broadcast content that doesn't meet LUFS standards gets rejected outright.
LUFS (Loudness Units Full Scale) is the measurement standard all major platforms use. Meeting it isn't difficult — but it requires knowing the target, measuring your audio, and applying the right gain. Premiere Pro doesn't make this easy.
Loudness Normalization reads your audio, tells you where you are, and hits the target automatically. Pick your platform, click normalize, export.
| Platform | Target | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube | -14 LUFS | Loudness normalization applied at playback |
| Spotify | -14 LUFS | Normalized on streaming playback |
| Apple Podcasts | -16 LUFS | Recommended for podcast delivery |
| Spotify Podcasts | -16 LUFS | Podcast hosting standard |
| Broadcast (EBU R128) | -23 LUFS | EU broadcast standard |
| Broadcast (ATSC A/85) | -24 LUFS | US broadcast standard |
How it works
Open CaptionX panel
Go to Window → Extensions → CaptionX in Premiere Pro. Loudness Normalization is a tab inside the panel.
Select your target
Choose your delivery platform from the preset list — YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, broadcast, or enter a custom LUFS target.
Analyze your audio
CaptionX measures your sequence's integrated loudness and shows you how far it is from the target, track by track.
Normalize in one click
Apply the precise gain adjustment to hit your target LUFS. Works per clip, per track, or across the full sequence.
Built for any delivery format
Podcasters
Deliver episodes at the exact loudness your podcast host requires. Stop guessing whether your audio will sound right on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Overcast.
YouTube creators
Stop YouTube's loudness normalization from altering your intended audio levels. Export at exactly -14 LUFS and your content sounds the way you mixed it.
Broadcast editors
Meet EBU R128 or ATSC A/85 LUFS requirements automatically. No third-party loudness meter required — measure and normalize inside Premiere Pro.
