Premiere Pro plugins and extensions: the two kinds
“Plugin” covers two different things in Premiere Pro, and they live in different places.
- Effect plugins add effects you drop onto a clip from the Effects panel. Neat Video, Flicker Free, Beauty Box and Twixtor are effect plugins.
- Extensions are panels that open from the Window menu and dock like any other panel. CaptionX, Animation Composer and Excalibur are extensions.
Premiere Pro plugins for captions and subtitles
Premiere Pro can transcribe speech and make basic captions with its built-in Speech to Text. A plugin adds styled, animated captions and more languages. (We go through every method in how to add captions in Premiere Pro.)
