SMI Files
What is an SMI file?
SMI is SAMI, the caption format Microsoft made for Windows Media Player. Each line starts at a SYNC time written in milliseconds, and one file can carry several languages, each with its own class such as KRCC for Korean or ENCC for English. It is still a common format for Korean subtitles.
Most video editors, players and platforms expect SRT instead. The converter reads the SYNC times, keeps line breaks and italics, and writes a standard SRT file.
Two languages in one file
Many SMI files hold Korean and English together. Pick the language you want from the list next to the file.
Korean text encodings
Older SMI files are often saved in EUC-KR. The converter reads them and saves UTF-8, so Korean text shows correctly everywhere.
Timing kept
Each line shows from its SYNC time until the next one, and blank lines clear the screen, just as the player shows them.
