SUB Files

Which kind of .sub file do you have?

Three different subtitle formats use the .sub extension. Open the file in a text editor: numbers in curly brackets mean MicroDVD, and time lines like 00:01:00.10,00:02:00.20 mean SubViewer. If it looks like random symbols and there is an .idx file next to it, it is a DVD subtitle. All three work here.

MicroDVD (.sub as text)

Each line looks like {100}{150}Hello. The numbers are video frames, so the frame rate matters. Many files name it on the first line. If yours does not, pick your video's frame rate next to the file.

SubViewer (.sub as text)

Each subtitle starts with a time line like 00:01:00.10,00:02:00.20, often under an [INFORMATION] header. It converts straight away, and [br] becomes a line break.

DVD subtitles (.idx and .sub)

A .sub that comes with an .idx file holds pictures of the text instead of text. Add both files and choose Convert with OCR to read them into an SRT file.

How It Works

How to convert SUB to SRT

Step 1

Add your .sub file

Drop in a MicroDVD or SubViewer .sub, or a DVD .idx and .sub pair. Add one file or up to 20.

Step 2

Check the frame rate

MicroDVD files use the frame rate they name, or 23.976. Pick your video's rate if the subtitles drift.

Step 3

Download the SRT

Download each file on its own or all of them at once.
