TTML Files
What is a TTML file?
TTML (Timed Text Markup Language) is the W3C caption format used by streaming services and broadcasters. Its earlier name is DFXP, and many TTML files simply end in .xml. Each line is a paragraph with a begin and end time, and styles such as italics are set on the line or defined once at the top.
Video editors, players and most upload forms want SRT instead. The converter reads the times however they are written and keeps the text and its styling.
Every kind of time
Clock times, frames, ticks and seconds all convert, using the frame and tick rates the file declares.
Styles kept
Italic, bold and underline come through, from the line itself or from styles defined at the top of the file.
Lines put together
Some files give each line of a subtitle its own paragraph with the same times. They become one subtitle with two lines.
YouTube XML too
YouTube's timed text XML converts as well, and automatic captions that overlap are trimmed so each ends where the next begins.
